Free Apps for Triangle Home Hunters

Are you looking for a home to rent or buy in the Triangle? If you have a smart phone, there are lots of free apps available to help you with your search! Here are our recommendations:
  • WeatherThe Weather Channel – Dress comfortably for your hunting excursions - check the current temps in any Triangle city or an hourly, 36-hour, or 10-day forecast. Includes radar maps!
  • Real estate finders – Plot your route - Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com all have free apps that let you find properties for sale and rent and tons of features to help narrow your search.
  • House info - A new app called HomeSnap lets you take a picture of a house while you're out and about, and get instant details like whether or not it's for sale, the price, square footage, and lots more.
  • QR scannerRedLaser Barcode Scanner – Everyone is using QR codes now - those funny pixelated squares that you see on for sale and rent signs around town. QR stands for Quick Response Code, which is simply a type of barcode that holds information such as a company name, address, or for our purposes, details about a specific property. Get this app, then use your phone to scan a QR code and see the translation.
  • Tracking/organizingEvernote – Hard to believe this app is still free. It's a glorified notepad that lets you save a note and include attachments such as pics and documents, and comes with a location feature to map your note. Supports multiple notebooks too. Very useful for keeping track of each property you look at to have all of the info in one place.
  • Photo editingAdobe Photoshop Express – This app lets you crop, straighten, and perform other basic edits on your photos that you can save to your Library while on the go.
  • Photo sharingInstagram – If you want to share your pics, this app lets you add some flair to your image and share it to multiple social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc.) at once.
  • LightFlashlight by Rik – The light app is a handy flashlight that you may need when looking at houses with the power off (common to disconnect when people move out) or for peering into basements or attics. It comes with a dimmer and strobe light.
  • Compass – Most smart phones come with a compass app – don’t forget you have it when you need to plot direction surveying a potential property!
Around Me App
  • Amenity finderAroundMe – This app is useful when you're looking at a property and want to find out the nearest banks, bars, gas stations, hospitals, restaurants, supermarkets, and more.
  • NC attractions finder – The Travel NC app is a must-have if you're coming from out of state to look at homes. It indicates the nearest parks, shopping, museums, and other places in a tour-like setting.
  • Crime finderSpotCrime Lite – Check the safety of the neighborhood you're looking at with this app, which shows crime incidents surrounding your location.
  • Calculators – Some of the real estate apps have built-in calculators, but with the Simple Mortgage Payment app, potential home owners can get a quick estimate of the monthly payment. For renters, the Rent Calculator lets you see each roommate's weekly and monthly costs.
Not apps, but some helpful websites (that you can pull up in your mobile browser):
  • Wake County Real Estate Datahttp://services.wakegov.com/realestate/ – Lets you search Wake County real estate property by owner or location address. If you want to find out who owns a property, deed information, assessed value, tax amounts and more - go here. Click on "Map" when you're viewing a property to get a wealth of even more data, such as property lines and geographic features.
  • Golden Realty & Managementhttp://www.goldenrealtync.com – See any home we have on the market or search our database of over 18,000 MLS listings in the Triangle area!
